We first met at my best friend’s engagement party in London and were soon talking every day. Our situation was complicated as I lived in London whilst Kunal lived in Canada, but we made the long distance relationship work. When Kunal proposed, we decided to have a destination wedding as we wanted friends from all over the world to celebrate with us.
We chose to marry in a private beachfront villa with amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea and a very spacious garden for the ceremony. We had a different theme for each day of the week-long wedding celebrations. Our first day saw a Spanish-themed ceremony on the beach, complete with Spanish tapas and Flamenco dancers; on the second day we celebrated our Mehndi night (a pre-wedding ceremony) which was a burst of colour: we added an Asian twist to the décor with hanging lanterns and vibrant peacock feathers. Without forgetting our Indian roots we had a Bollywood dance group to get everyone up and dancing!
St Lucia Dreaming
As soon as Lee proposed, we knew that we would like to get married abroad. The question was where! We immediately thought of the Caribbean due to the blue skies and white beaches.
St Lucia caught our eyes and we never looked back. The island is beautiful and so green. We spent months trying to find the perfect venue but as soon as we saw Sugar Beach, that was it! I didn’t care what the price tag was — I knew I had to get married there!
I didn’t want to limit my choice by looking for a dress that was ‘suitable’ for the beach. I knew I wanted something unusual, and it had to have back detail. I ended up trying so many and fell in love with them all! I’m so glad I stuck to my decision though — I loved my dress on the day!
