Meghan Markle has influenced the future of wedding fashion by paving the way with sleek, white satin that leaves sparkle and lace at the curb.
The popular ‘vintage’ lace trend in bridal fashion has long lingered on from Kate Middleton’s marriage to Prince William, but there is a new sweeping trend in town. Meghan Markle’s striking style altered the future of wedding fashion from the moment she stepped out of the carriage in her elegant Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy Couture dress. It might be that from now on, diamonds and dazzle are confined to accessories. Meghan’s tiara definitely retained an element of much needed royal glitz and glamour!
We can already see the ‘Meghan effect’ on high end designers – here are some examples of new bridal collections that feature clean lines, white satin, sleeves, and just a little bit of sparkle!
Vera Wang’s ‘White’ collection features several pieces that play homage to the clean lines of the Duchess’ dress. Wang moved slightly away from her tulle and lace dominated designs to approach a more clean cut silhouette on many of her dresses. The ‘High Neck Halter’ dress highlights the A-line shape, high neck and tapered train, similar to that of Markle’s second dress by Stella McCartney.
Susanne Neville’s Belle Epoque 2018 collection includes sleek, beautiful dresses that just like Markle, leave the bedazzling behind. The fit and shape are the standout features accompanied by occasional thoughtful embroidery, beading and intricate lace work – none of which steal the show against the cut of the dress.
The ‘Geddess’ dress perfectly illustrates how sleeves may become more popular after the wedding. This dress’ high boat neck line and cuff length sleeves leave the shape and waist line of the dress to do all the talking.
Even Alice Temperley London, famed for their beautiful work with lace and textured fabrics, are currently featuring several dresses that focus more on structure and shape. This classic and traditional ‘Octavia’ dress features a V-neck line and a pleated skirt. In true Temperley style, they couldn’t resist the embellished straps that add a little sparkle to the dress – something that we’re sure Meghan wouldn’t be opposed to!
